Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre’s suggested teaching tools

Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre’s education programs support curriculum in a variety of subject areas; whether you plan a visit to the marsh or have our knowledgeable staff deliver programs in your community.

In addition to these interactive programs, we also suggest these resources to supplement your wetland and environmental education lessons.

Education kits:

The Interpretive Centre has three themed education kits available for rent, each containing over 20 activities to enhance any teaching activity:

  • Watersheds - our largest kit contains over 30 watershed-based activities and experiments.
  • Project WET - great for any water festival and/or high school mentoring program.
  • Wetlands - our newest kit contains fun, interactive activities with the theme of wetlands.

Enviroscape:

EnviroScape models are available for rent from the Interpretive Centre. These models include everything you need for a classroom demonstration on wetlands, pollution and watersheds. All EnviroScape units are approximately 25" x 30" x 5" and are easy to use and clean. Also included in each unit is a user's guide with glossary, providing easy-to-use guidelines to aid an instructor, group leader or facilitator in presenting a demonstration.

Water Quality Testing equipment:

Sonde units and turbidity meters are available to schools wishing to participate in River Watch.

Free lesson plans:

Wetland education plans provided by Ducks Unlimited Canada.

Marsh Shop:

Our gift shop provides several useful tools for educators including owl pellets (for dissection), aquatic invertebrate keys, resource books and more!
