Fundraising Events at Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre

Event fundraising is a great way of raising funds for the Interpretive Centre! It gets the community involved and having fun. Plus, your support ensures that we have the financial means to reinforce our mandate to foster public awareness and knowledge of the inherent values of wetlands and associated ecosystems and to encourage public support for their conservation through innovative education and outreach programs.

If you would like to volunteer to host a fundraising event or have an event idea, contact the Fundraising Coordinator at ohmic@ducks.ca or call 1-888-50MARSH (62774).

Some Event Ideas to get you started:

Dress up or dress down?

Why not get your company involved in raising money? If you normally wear a suit or uniform to work or school, ask if you can pay a fee to not wear one. And if your workplace is normally casual, make the day a black tie event, with the men wearing tuxedos and the ladies, cocktail dresses.

Alternatively hold a competition to see who can come to work or school dressed in the most hideous clothes.

At the end of the day everyone could vote for the most glamorous/worst-dressed person and you could award prizes to the winner.

Take aim

A tried and tested method of raising money is to ask people to pay for the privilege of throwing something messy at you - maybe a cream pie or a wet sponge. If you're a school teacher, someone's boss or other authority figure you might find people are particularly keen to get involved in this event!

If you do decide to let people throw things at you please ensure they only use soft items and always wear goggles to protect your eyes. And don't forget to send us photos!

Fines

Do you work with someone who's prone to utter the odd expletive? Or is your office full of chocoholics? If so, why not set up a penalty system for the week by charging the guilty party a fine for every naughty word or sneaky chocolate bar eaten.

Healthy competition

Why not have a charity games league at your work, social club, or youth club? If you have a pool table or fooze ball table nearby you can draw up a league. You could also have a board games or card games championship. The overall winner could get a trophy or prize.

Take your pick

Challenge your friends to eat as much sweet corn, baked beans or peas as they can in a minute. The catch? Get them to use a cocktail stick to put them into their mouths. You can award the winner a prize, maybe a tin of the product they have just scoffed!
