Trails at Oak Hammock Marsh

Explore over 30 kilometres of trails and see the natural wonders of the marsh!

The Oak Hammock Marsh offers over 30 kilometers of trails for recreational uses.

Participate in one of the Interpretive Centre's daily activities to enjoy these trails on a guided hike with a friendly interpreter, or explore the marsh on your own. These trails are open for use year-round for many activities including hiking, cycling, horseback riding, skiing and snowshoeing. Please note that the vegetation along the dike trails is not mowed until after July 15th to prevent disturbing ducks and other birds that nest along the dikes. This can make the trails difficult for walking or biking during the spring. The trails are not generally groomed in the winter. Visitors should register at the Interpretive Centre before using the longer dike trails as there are no shelter, water, food, or bathroom facilities along most of these trails. The shortest loop along the main dike trail is approximately 10 kilometres in length and may take several hours to walk. Bottled water can be purchased at the Interpretive Centre. There are many trails close to the Interpretive Centre that are suitable for leisurely strolls.

Boardwalk trail in the fallTo make the most of your visit, please dress for the weather (rain gear, sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, etc.) and check with the Interpretive Centre for any seasonal restrictions (i.e. nesting area) before heading out. Be sure to take a trail map with you on your walk. Print one using the link above or pick one up at the Interpretive Centre.

Note that pets are welcome on the trails but must be kept on a leash at all times. Only non-motorized vehicles are allowed on the trails and personal non-motorized watercrafts are allowed on the marsh. Please respect the environment - take only pictures and leave only footprints.

The Wildlife Management Area is maintained by the Province of Manitoba. To report problems with the dyke trails, benches, and outhouses, please contact the Marsh Manager at 467-3370.
